BOB MARTIN MEMORIAL AWARD BURSARY
In 2009, the Hamilton Area Curling Association (HACA) established the Bob Martin Memorial Award Bursary. The Bursary is awarded through Hamilton’s Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, and offers an annual bursary for eligible Ontario Student Curlers. The first award was presented in 2010.
Bob Martin was an avid volunteer within the local curling community. He held the position of Senior Vice Chair of the 2007 Tim Horton’s Brier, was an active member and Past President of the Burlington Curling Club and also served as Past President of the Hamilton Area Curling Association.
During the 2007 Tim Horton’s Brier, a 50/50 draw license was obtained to raise funds to support local curling clubs. The proceeds were specified to be used for junior curling development. Bob was instrumental in this licensing and fundraising initiative.
In 2007, Bob Martin passed away suddenly. HACA was approached to participate in setting up a Bursary at Mohawk College in the name of Bob Martin, using the aforementioned residual funds. A donation from HACA, with Provincial Government levering, enables Mohawk College to annually award $500.00 to an eligible student.
The award is college-wide and open to any eligible Ontario student curler at Mohawk College. In the event that there is no eligible student curler, the award is presented by Mohawk using their pre-established selection criteria. Contact Mohawk College for application process.
